Class of 1974
Kingsley Cheng 1955-2003
It grieves us to inform you that Kingsley Cheng passed away in Vancouver on June 8, 2003. He is survived by his wife, Lauretta and daughter Hilary (13). Kingsley is fondly remembered by all of us as the gentleman scholar who was consistently top of the class, and always willing to help others with their school work. He was Head Prefect for the school year 1975-76.
After completing DBS, Kingsley entered the School of Architecture at HKU in 1976 and graduated in 1981 with Distinction (a very rare honour typically reserved for the few extraordinarily bright students in architecture). He married Lauretta AuYeung in 1983
and emigrated to Vancouver in 1984. After working for an architectural firm for a few years, he started his own practice in 1989. He attained many achievements in his career in Vancouver and has received numerous awards from various professional institutes in Canada. One of them is a townhouse development in a heritage zone. The project received the "Gold Award for Best Townhouse development in 1996" from the Canadian Home Builders Association of British Columbia. This was widely publicized by the Chinese media of Vancouver at that time, quoting him as an example of a "successful immigrant from HK".
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 14, 2003, at 10:00AM; at the St John Apostle Parish, 5457 Trafalgar Street, Vancouver. (W 39 and Trafalgar)
We will all miss this extraordinary classmate and friend.
