Class of 1980
Herman Heung and Victoria Ho Tied The Knot in June 2001
Who could have thought the day would come for Herman Heung (80) to
finally succumb to the powerful web of matrimony and fall prey to the
grace and beauty of Victoria, the woman destined to lead him onto finer
pasture away from the 'hit or miss' battlefields of singletons and
lonesome hearts.
The church ceremony on June 8 at St. Teresa's on Prince Edward Road was
blessed by divine intervention not only because it was right across the
street from Herman's house which saved him a bundle on limo service but
also from the weather god who cast her celestial approval by granting a
short reprieve in the torrential downpour that had wreaked havoc
throughout the week. One has to truly appreciate the couple's luck
against the imminence of 'Down Soup Chicken' on the most important day
of the newlyweds.
The bride and groom were greeted by close friends and relatives eager to
witness the charming couple embarking on a journey decorated with lovely
descriptive of 'for better or worse' and 'till death do us part' kind of
commitments. The momentous occasion would not be complete without the
Reverend's solemn words and the parents' emotional display overcame by
the couple's ceremonial presence and exchange of vows at the altar.
The celebration banquet was held at the new Inter-Continental or
formerly Regent Hotel on Sunday evening, June 10, two days after the
Friday church ceremony. (There was some speculation on whether Herman
had needed one more day of bachelorhood before completing his marriage
plunge.) The first-class venue was beautifully decorated with hints of
Victoria's 'secrets'. Sweet floral and charming ambiance welcomed the
family and guests as they congratulated the newlyweds and shared an
evening of fine dining and laughter.
A number of our Class '80 classmates from DPS/DBS and their lovely
spouses were on hand to leave our marks on this special night. There
were Philip Chu as the Best Man, Jerry Ng, Jerry Chang, David Tsui,
Steven Chang, Angus Cheng, Victor Yuen, Vincent Lee who flew in from San
Francisco and myself. The 'gang' had a wonderful time with the
free-flowing booze and managed to get the Best Man totally wasted while
the groom deftly avoided us, the rambunctious well wishers who had
attempted a 'bottoms-up' toast at every conceivable opportunity.
Whether it's an 'age' thing or a sign of times, we all agreed that
weddings of this proportion especially among close friends cannot go
quietly honored.
Following a remarkable wedding weekend, Herman and Victoria took off for
their honeymoon in Egypt, understandably staying away from wet weather
and reported that they had a wonderful time experiencing the exotic
Egyptian culture and cuisines. Next stop: Parenthood.
More congratulations to Herman and Victoria!
