The Old Boys' 4x1 lap Relay at this year's Apple Race on Sept 26 was anything but a race for fruit.
Class of 75 led by old-timer Yeung Sai Mo, a highly regarded 800 meters specialist was pit against team led by Maurice Siu Cheuk Ming including Class of 1989 to 2001 , another recordholder in 400 meters in a race promised to earn the billing as the battle of ages. Probably sensing the gravity of the occasion, the teachers team also fielded a very competitive squad to stake their claim in the Achilles' fame. Lead runners took off quickly at the starter's signal under the watchful eyes of the whole school. Handovers were smooth, an evidence of endless training not lost. However by the second handover, it had become apparent that Siu Cheuk Ming's team really meant business as they began to build an insurmountable lead. The focus of the race switched to one between the teachers and Class of 75. In the final stretch, Mo and Company had to settle for third but none less with admiration and respect from the charged up crowd.
Race time: Maurice and Company clocked 3'41.70", the teachers 3'59.55" and Class of '75 4'18.33".
