Dear Old Boys,
The DSOBA Mentorship Programme follows the oldest forms of education originated from Homer's Odyssey. Odysseus, King of Ilthaca, requested his loyal friend and counsel Mentor to guide and educate his son Telemachus while he was engaged in the Trojan War. Relationships and interpersonal communications is important in a person's development, the Mentor Programme aims to establish a supportive relationship between Mentors (DSOBA members) and Mentees (DBS graduates). This two-way relationship would facilitate the holistic enhancement of DBS boys.
The Programme is part of a broader informal education. It provides DBS graduates a source of general guidance concerning their studies, social life and information about work and the realities of life outside of campus. The relationship between Mentor and Mentees is an informal, experience sharing one and Mentees should not expect Mentors to help solve specific problems
DSOBA has many members holding important positions in various fields. There is a great wealth of experience to be shared amongst our membership. The Mentor Programme provides a channel for selected Mentees to share and benefit from the experience of their Mentors. The Programme is also a learning opportunity for the mentors. for they can have first hand knowledge on what makes our younger generation tick.
Trial mentor Programme
As the Mentor Programme is still on a trial basis we have limited the scope to the following selected professions and the number of Mentors within each profession. Mentees who are interested can submit a request to Miss Amy AuYeung at the DSOBA office. The requests of the qualified Mentees will be forwarded to the various Mentors for selection and due notification. The DSOBA stresses that this arrangement is purely on a voluntary basis, the DSOBA hereby disclaims herself for any civil and/ criminal liability.
