Fish story
It didn't look good. Hong Kong was hit by a signal 8 typhoon just one day before our squid fishing trip. It would have been a pity if we had to cancel the sold out event. Thankfully the typhoon passed quickly and the weather actually turned out fine for our event on July 17. While there were a few cancellations we were able to replace the vacancies with those on the waiting list. (Yes, there was a waiting list) A total of 35 brave souls and a fearless Pekinese (dog) stuck with the program and we cast off at 7 P.M. from Tsim Sha Tsui pier. Dinner was buffet style and as usual there was more than enough food for all.
Once anchored everyone was eager to try their hand at catching some squid...or something. Scores for the first half was DSOBA team 0 vs. marine life 0. Then Jessica Fong caught a puffer fish, which was released. Then Samson Yeung (99) hooked a nice size squid, kept that one. Then it was Angela Hui's turn, she caught another puffer fish (hope it was not the same one),released that. The last person to catch something was Fredrick Ho (88) who caught a beautiful foot-long silver scabbardfish.
You should have seen the one that got away...
Stanley Fong (78)
