September 14 : Poolside Party
We had marvelous hot weather in September, EXCEPT on the day of our annual Poolside
Party, Sunday, Sept 7, 1997. We had to postpone the event and cancel our barbeque
food orders, otherwise a handful of people will have to feast on barbeque fare for
a looongtime.
It was second time lucky, Sept 14, the following Sunday turned out to be a perfect
day for our Poolside Party, the sun was out but there was a compensating light easterly
breeze to cool things off. Attendance was a respectable 81, made up of 52 adults
and 29 children. People started arriving in earnest around noon, just about the time when
the barbeque is ready. Despite some
attendees' keen interest, our original plan for
a game of mini soccer had to be dropped because of a scheduled cricket match on the
field. We regret this let down. Lunch was followed by a water polo match with adults
and kids participating, the ladies, curiously, declined to join in the fun. The next
event involved the parents and their children. Multi-coloured plastic balls were
thrown into the pool, the children have to collect as many balls as possible to give to their
parents. The children and parents just loved this. Albert Wong's daughter was the
winner in the first round. Robert Fong's son, Brian, was the winner in the second
round. They each get to choose 2 toys as their prize. The last organised event was the
swimming competition. The swimming competition was split into 4 groups: age 5 and
under, age 10 and under, age 15 and under and a competition open to all ages. The
results are as follows:
Relaxing by the pool under the shade of trees and beach
umbrellas, carressed by a
gentle breeze, looking at the young ones laughing and splashing in the water and
against the light background music one hears the cricketeers on the field shouting
"HOW'S THAT!" THAT, my friend, is our DSOBA poolside party
and THAT is the good life.
Thanks to the Social Committee members who were volunteered to organized this event,
whose efforts made the event: Alex Wei, Danny Patterson,
Peter Yam, Gary Lam, David
Tse and our association's secretary Amy.
